This Facebook group under the username ‘Racchaell Samoie Ruto EGH’ shares promotions allegedly run by First Lady Rachel Ruto. One of the posts claims that Rachel Ruto is awarding Sh27,000 to anyone who wishes her a happy birthday.
Background
Since President William Ruto ascended to power, the internet has been awash with accounts purporting to share information on loans and promotions offered by the First Lady. Piga Firimbi has flagged those accounts here, here, and here but the relentless scammers keep creating more.
Verification
To begin with, the creator of this group misspells the First Lady’s name. Additionally, Rachel Ruto’s official Facebook page is under the username Mama Rachel Ruto. On this page, there is no mention of a promotion. It was also not shared on her official Twitter handle.
Rachel Ruto’s legitimate account is a Facebook page while the imposter account is a Facebook group. Such communication from the first lady would be shared through her official Facebook and Twitter accounts.
Verdict
The Facebook group allegedly sharing promotions run by First Lady Rachel Ruto is FAKE.
