President Ruto’s official Facebook page is verified.
This Facebook account offering a KSh45,000 promotion in President William Ruto’s name is a HOAX.
“If you are in Kenya right now and did not receive my Ksh45,000 promotion yesterday, write your phone number to receive it today,” reads the post partly in Swahili.
The post is marred with grammatical errors and asks for people’s phone numbers, which would be unlikely from a presidential official account.
The account under the name ‘Honourable Williams Samoei Ruto’, contains an image of the president on the profile picture, and has 463 friends.
The promotion in question, however, does not appear anywhere on the president’s official Facebook page which is verified and has 2.2 million followers.
PesaCheck contacted David Mugonyi, head of the Presidential Communication Service, and he dismissed the account as “Fake”.
