The claim was first published on February 18th as a breaking news item by Times Live. The title read, “The DCI of Echesa’s case found dead and dumped in Kikuyu.”
The accompanying picture is that of a body covered with a blue cloth and a crowd of onlookers surrounding it in what looks like a maize plantation
Background
The scandal revolves around former Sports and Heritage Cabinet Secretary, Rashid Echesa who was charged alongside three others with forgery.
According to reports, the case involves the alleged Sh39 billion fraudulent arms deal, which is linked to one of the most senior government offices.
Verification
However, a quick reverse search shows the image first appeared online on 15th January 2018 in reference to a murder of a woman who was killed and dumped in a maize field in Gweru, Zimbabwe.
The case has been widely reported by the media but there have been no credible sources of any officer by the name Roman Musyoki being murdered.
Verdict
The claims that a DCI officer investigating the 39 billion fraudulent arms deal was killed are false.
