Does This Image Show IEBC Chair in a Press Briefing With Raila Odinga?

In a Facebook post by the Kenyan Report, this image was shared claiming to show Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chair, Wafula Chebukati attending a press briefing by Azimio La Umoja party leader, Raila Odinga.

Background

Since this year’s general elections, Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga has faulted IEBC’s chair for a number of things. One being, standing by injustices in the just concluded general elections. While this happens, equally, mis-information post-election continues to thrive. This one for instance claimed to be a poll by Trends and Insights for Africa (TIFA),  predicting Raila Odinga’s win in 2027. Something that TIFA distances itself from.

Verification

This image was taken during a press briefing by Azimio La Umoja, to award party tickets for upcoming by-elections. According to this article by The Star this press briefing had in attendance a number of politicians. Among them, Mukhisa Kituyi, the face claimed to be IEBC chair, Wafula Chebukati.

More advanced searches between November 3, 2022 when this press conference was held and November 18, 2022 show the face claimed to be Wafula Chebukati is actually Mukhisa Kituyi.

The same briefing, published by Citizen Tv two weeks earlier, similarly shows Mukhisa as part of the attendees.

Verdict

This image DOES NOT show Wafula Chebukati attending an Azimio La Umoja press briefing.
