Is This Former Rugby Player Daniel Adongo?

A series of videos posted on Twitter from August 13 has left many Kenyans concerned about the welfare of Daniel Adongo.

The videos have led to many, at first, questioning if it was indeed the renowned football star in the now-viral clips.

Background

Daniel Adongo became famous in 2013 after becoming the first Kenyan to play in the National Football League (NFL), America’s premier football league.

Before that, he had an illustrious career as a rugby player from an early age. Adongo was first noticed when playing for Strathmore (University) and, subsequently, when he joined the Kenya Harlequins junior team. He was then scouted in 2005 while representing Kenya in the World Cup qualifiers and, later, in the Safari Sevens tournament the following year. Thereafter, he joined the Sharks Academy in South Africa.

In South Africa, he played with the Vodacom Bulls and, later, the Southern Kings, becoming the first Kenyan to play in the Vodacom Super Rugby in 2013. That same year, Adongo signed a 2-year contract with the Indianapolis Colts, an NFL member club in the American Football Conference South division, as an outside linebacker.

Adongo was later let go by the club after two reports of alleged domestic violence involving an unnamed person, but no charges were pressed. He never got a new club after leaving the Colts as a free agent.

Verification

The person in the viral clips on social media was later confirmed to be Adongo with his family saying they were finding ways to rescue him. His father, Joe Adongo, went ahead to plead with Kenyans and the media to go slow on his son and said Adongo’s experience is synonymous with most sports celebrities who fail to handle their status owing to pressure.

Verdict

The claim that the incoherent unkempt man smoking weed in the videos is Daniel Adongo is TRUE.
