Did Daily Nation Publish a Headline Claiming Rigathi Tortured Matiba’s Widow?

A tweet shared what looks like the front page of the 10th  June 2022 edition of Daily Nation Newspaper.

The image show tweets the headline: “Matiba’s widow: Rigathi tortured me.’’

Below the headline is a summary that describes how Mama Edith, Kenneth Matiba’s wife, painfully recounted the scary ordeal of the night in the 90s when the then Limuru District Officer Rigathi Gachagua , now Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate, led a contingent of police officers in an attack of Matiba’s Limuru home. The summary also alleges that she was allegedly assaulted and sexually abused leaving her in a pool of blood.

But was this what the newspaper reported on 10th June?

The circulating front page was also flagged as fake in a tweet by The Nation. The Daily Nation newspaper published on June 10, 2022 was of a different front page with the headline reading: ‘Block These People, EACC Tells Wafula Chebukati’.

NO, The Daily Nation did not publish a story claiming that Rigathi Gachagua tortured Kenneth Matiba’s widow.
