This tweet claims that UDA, Kilifi gubernatorial aspirant Aisha Jumwa was begging to speak at a Kenya Kwanza rally held in Kilifi.
Background
Kilifi governor Amason Kingi and Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa came together to drum up support for William Ruto’s presidential bid on May 25, 2022. This rally comes in the wake of Pamoja African Alliance’s defection from Azimio One Kenya to Kenya Kwanza.
Deputy President William Ruto arrived at 3pm and addressed the crowd from the sunroof of a car. While addressing the crowd he endorsed Aisha Jumwa’s gubernatorial bid. The incumbent Kilifi governor Amason Kingi was beside the deputy president while Hon. Aisha stood among the crowd. An image showing her raising her hand elicited various reactions from Kenyans, with others asking why a politician of her calibre was begging to speak at a UDA rally.
Verification
According to videos uploaded on Kenya Digital News, who were streaming the rally, Aisha Jumwa is indeed standing with the crowd. However, she is not asking for permission to speak as the tweets above claim, she is raising her hands to express her joy after Deputy President William Ruto endorsed her gubernatorial bid.
Verdict
The tweet claiming that Aisha Jumwa was raising her hands to ask for permission to speak is FALSE.
